Another way is he give in class written assignment to student so he can watch how students do their work. Cheating students may face severe consequences, more likely to fail in class, lead to probation, and even ask to leave. The last point that he discusses is about new student generation that this plagiarism, copy from the internet way of thinking habit are already spread out everywhere and it will be difficult to change.

In my home country, people usually talk a little about plagiarism because my home country do not notice that the original should be protected and respected from others. People often use other’s ideas or points as their own achievement. Not only in the companies, but also in the college. People write articles copy from others. Students writes papers copy from the internet. Websites use others photos as a background image, etc. They do these without document or citations. I think this phenomenon occur just like the essay say” Others see the problem as the result of declining personal morality and of a culture that rewards shady behavior.”(Cutting and Pasting A Senior Thesis by(BRENT STAPLES) ,2,17) It is like a culture problem, people all have the same thinking on it. Hopefully, this behavior recently begin to change. Some people stands out to show their arguments. People turn to emphasis the meaning of plagiarism.

 

Before I read  this essay, I know that America is a country think plagiarism as a very seriously issue. I also heard about my teachers that the strict consequence of plagiarism. So I was somewhat concern about how to avoid it. Since I didn't  trained to think about plagiarism. After read this essay I find that not only me worried about it.  Most American students also worried about it. And I also agree with the point that why students sometimes will plagiarism, according to the sentence from the essay shows that the reasons are students use new technologies to compete their assignment, the moral problems and they under pressure(Cutting and Pasting A Senior Thesis by(BRENT STAPLES),2,17) Sometimes when I try to find some resources to finish my work, I usually  look through the website and pick what I need. But I didn't know the exact words to describe my thoughts. Therefore I may follow others. That was an unintentional plagiarism.  And there is one sentence leave me a deep impression “They become like rap musicians who construct what they describe as new works by ‘sampling’ (which is to say, cutting and pasting) beats and refrain from the works of others.” That gives a feeling about plagiarism just like saying rap, you didn't  think, just go with the rhythm.

My response is....

I will have to agree with the author about plagiarism is bad for students for those only cut and paste then say that’s is their work without trying to understand the main idea of the assignment. This problem will prevent students from thinking critically and intelligently. Later on this might lead to less productivity as a negative workforce into the public.

 

I also have to argue with his example of a rap musician in the article which he said a new generation’s work but putting musical notes from different songs to create a new mix and claim that’s their work. This is might not be too bad at all. When we think about the old generation which only had a books in their hand to study and generated totally new idea. I am glad and appreciated their work in the past but new generation students today is surrounded by unlimited information. It seems difficult and impossible to come up with 100 percent invented idea. Those totally invented works need highly skill and very intelligent person to create. Especially, when he mentioned about high school student with a young age who do not have those requirements. We might need to think about the academic system with high level of expectation. They need to understand that not everybody is smart. Cutting and pasting from sources provided in the internet might not be the best way but that might be the only way to get work done but students should only use it properly and intelligently. I will use my experience for example about cutting and paste. When I was at the previous university I had a very difficult mathematics homework and I couldn’t solve the problem even I tried many times. So I searched for the solution in the internet and luckily I found the answers so I copied and pasted and summited the homework on time. Later on I used those questions to discuss with my teacher and review for the exam. If I didn’t copy from the internet my points would be deducted and teacher would be disappointed.

In the article "Cutting and Pasting: A Senior Thesis by(Insert Name)", the author Brent Staples describes the statement of cheating and plagiarism around us in the schools and colleges are worrying for parents and teachers. He lists some examples in the article that what schools and teacher have done for this situation. However, there are so many cheating and plagiarism happening in schools and colleges that every school and teacher need to consider and even to worry about this situation. Brent doesn't only appeal to parents and teachers to consider this problem, he also remind students to think their purpose of study for themselves. Certainly, Brent wants all students to avoid cheating and plagiarism in their student career. No cheating or plagiarism is very important for everyone.

    As a reader of Brent's this article,  at the same time as a student in college, I think that cheating and plagiarism are definitely bad for all of us. Therefore, what's the real reason of cheating and plagiarism? Before I finish this article, I have tried to remember the time when I tried to cheat or cheated. There are two main reasons of cheating and plagiarism. The first one is our lazy nature of human. Lazy is the nightmare of all students because we all prefer an easy life rather than days, even weeks of hard work without any entertainments. As the time going on, we could be tried of our daily life, and then maybe some students could be careless of their study. The other reason is the pressure around students. Just like the last article we learned together "College Pressure", there are four main pressure around students which are from economies, parents, peels, and ourselves. Those pressure could make some students scared to face with their bad final grades. Both of the two reasons, they could cause the result of cheating of plagiarism. 

    Therefore, we need to take care of those two reasons to be patient with our study and to find interest in study. Also, we need to learn hard to improve ourself to get a good grade we wanted for ourself. I'm sure the percent of cheating and plagiarism could lower than before if we all try to do it.
